Located in Alabama, Cleburne County was founded on December 6, 1866 by and act of the Alabama Legislature. The first county seat was settled in Edwardsville, but it was later moved to Heflin in 1906. Heflin is the county seat of, and the largest city in Cleburne County. Cleburne County was named after Major General of Arkansas, Patrick Cleburne.
