Brief History of Antioch, CA
Antioch is a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland, located in Contra Costa County. Founded in 1850, Antioch is one of the oldest towns in California. Two brothers by the name of William and Joseph Smith, founded Antioch and named it Smith’s Landing. The first substantial industry, aside from farming and dairying, was formed after the discovery of coal in the hills south of Antioch.
