Brief History of Arroyo Grande, CA
The City of Arroyo Grande is situated in San Luis Obispo County, between Pismo Beach and Santa Maria. Arroyo Grande was originally inhabited by the Chumash Indians. Spanish explorer, Juan Cabrillo was the first European to visit the area. Arroyo Grande is conveniently located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors established the township of Arroyo Grande in 1862. Then on July 10, 1911, Arroyo Grande officially incorporated as a city in San Luis Obispo County.
