Bass Lake, the freshwater lake, is nestled in the Sierra Nevada. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company operates Bass Lake, which is a hydroelectric reservoir. The San Joaquin Valley uses Bass Lake’s water for crop irrigation. Most of the land around Bass Lake is part of the Sierra National Forest. While the north shore of Bass Lake is primarily made up of private cabins and homes, the south shore of the lake has campgrounds and picnic areas that were developed by the U.S. Forest Service, which designated the lake an official Recreation Area. Bass Lake is populated by approximately 607 residents.
