Brief History of Bellflower, CA
Spanish soldiers petitioned Pedro Fages, the governor of California, for land on which to graze their herds of livestock. Soldier, Manuel Nieto received all the land between the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers. Then in 1832, the land was divided into five smaller ranchos by the new Mexican Governor, Jose Figueroa. Santa Gertrudes Los Coyotes, and Los Cerritos were the three ranchos that bordered Bellflower.
