The City of Bishop on U.S. highway 395 in Inyo County, California was named for Samuel Bishop, an early settler. Bishop is located in Owens Valley, named for another early explorer, Richard Owens. The current population of Bishop California is approximately 3,600 people. The city is located in on the eastern edge of the California Sierra Nevada mountains. Highway 395 is a major North/South route connecting Los Angeles and Reno, Nevada. As such, there is a steady flow of traffic through the city.
