Blocksburg, located in Humboldt County, was originally inhabited by Native Americans when the first white settlers arrived in the area. After the establishment of the post office in 1887, Blocksburg officially became a town. Blocksburg was first called Larrabee after Henry Larrabee who an extensive amount of land in the region.
