Bonsall is located between US highways 15 and 5 in San Diego County on Highway 76 next to Camp Pendleton Marine Base—the busiest military base in the country.
Bonsall, California is a census designated place with about 10,000 people, meaning not an incorporated city. It is a small community in a rural setting, very popular with horse owners. The climate tends to be cooler than other areas in San Diego County. The community started when John Bonsall, a Methodist minister, built a house and planted a fruit orchard in 1879. Bonsall was first known as Fairview. It has been acclaimed by many as one of the most unique communities in Southern California. It’s residents have access to the Pacific Ocean and the San Luis Rey river.
