Just down highway 86 between El Centro and Calipatria in Imperial County lies the city of Brawley. With a population of about 26,000 people, Brawley is located about 210 miles down from Los Angeles, just north of the Mexican border. Brawley is known as a general law city and is celebrating its 100 th anniversary this year. It is incorporated with a city government of the council manager type. The weather in Brawley is hot and dry, especially during the summer where the tempetures can average over 110 degrees. Like most of Imperial County, Brawley is primarily an agricultural area. The population of Brawley is about 75% Hispanic.
