Brief History of Caliente, CA
With a population of 1,019, Caliente is a census designated area in Kern County. Caliente was first established during the 1870’s. Caliente was then called Allens Camp after a settler and cattle rancher. The name was changed to Agua Caliente, due to the hot springs in the area. The shortened name of Caliente was adopted in 1875 because it conflicted with another community in Sonoma County that had the same name.
