Brief History of Carson, CA
In 1782, Spanish soldier, Juan Jose Dominguez received the first land grant for his thirty years of service. This was the first land grant in the history of California which included 75,000 acres of land that he named Rancho San Pedro. The immense expanse stretched from the Los Angeles river all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Today, the areas known as Torrance, Redondo Beach, Lomita, Wilmington, parts of San Pedro, and Carson are all cities that were a part of the land grant.
