Brief History of Cathedral City, CA
For more than 2,000 years the Cahuilla Indians inhabited the land now known as Cathedral City, California. In 1850, Henry Washington of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers discovered rock formations that resembled a cathedral. In 1925, the area’s first housing subdivision began to develop. Cathedral City incorporated as a city in Riverside County in 1981.
