Brief History of Concord, CA
Concord ’s first inhabitants included a small tribe of Chupcan Indians. The first outsiders to encounter Concord were Spanish explorers, led by Captain Pedro Fages and Father Juan Crespi in 1772. They were traveling from Mission San Jose toward what is now known as Martinez and Sacramento. Concord incorporated as a city in Contra Costa County on February 5, 1905. Located in 35 miles east of San Francisco, Concord is closest to Richmond and Antioch.
