Brief History of Corcoran, CA
Corcoran California is a fertile agricultural area in Kings County California with a population of just over 26,000 people. Corcoran became incorporated on August 14,1914. Corcoran is located on California highway 43 between Wasco and Hanford. Just like the city of Avenal, California, a short distance away, Corcoran has its own prison, Corcoran State Prison, housing such notorious bad guys as Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan. Corcoran also has another prison called the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran. Together, the two prisons contain about half of the population of Corcoran, and a large number of the remaining residents either work at the prisons or on local farms. Corcoran is an important railroad stop, and has been since the beginning of the 20 th century.
