Brief History of Corona, CA
Located in western Riverside County, Corona was founded in 1886, at the height of the Southern California citrus boom. Prior to the 1980’s, the largely agriculture community of Corona was best known for its citrus orchards, ranches, and dairy farms. Corona is now known as the Gateway to the Inland Empire. Due to the sky-high real estate prices in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Corona’s cheap land is desirable to industrialists, developers, and people looking to buy large houses for a low price. Corona has the Norco to the northeast, while Chino Hills and Yorba Linda are located to the west. All other unincorporated areas border the rest of Corona. Corona incorporated as a city in Riverside County, but in 2002 considered an initiative to secede from the county. The residents want to form an autonomous Corona County because they are displeased with the way services are handled in nearby cities. The western part of Riverside County, including Murrieta, have also considered this action.
