The unincorporated community of Cottonwood is located in Tehama County. Cottonwood was founded as a stagecoach town in 1882. Cottonwood is 15 miles equidistant between Redding and Red Bluff, south of Anderson. Cottonwood is also considered a census designated community in Shasta County. By 1872, Cottonwood became a major shipping point for agricultural products, cattle, and lumber. Cottonwood is currently growing within its economic base in agriculture and lumber products.
