Brief History of Emigrant Gap, CA
At the intersection of California Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 80 is Emigrant Gap. Its mane came about because it is a gap on the California Trail at the top of the Sierra Nevada Mountains that was used by emigrants traveling west to California, which around the mid-1800s was still owned by Mexico. The Gap is located just west of Donner Pass, the site of the fateful Donner expedition.
