Brief History of Fort Jones, CA
Fort Jones, California is located in Siskiyou County, in the Scott Valley area. Fort Jones had a population of 600 at the 2000 census. In 1850, Fort Jones was named Scottsburg and later changed to Scottsville. In 1860, local citizens petitioned the postal department to change the name to Fort Jones. The post at Fort Jones was established on October 18, 1852 and named in honor of Colonel Roger Jones. On June 23, 1858, Fort Jones ceased to exist as a military garrison.
