Brief History of Gridley, CA
Gridley was named after its earliest landowner and its founder, George W. Gridley. Gridley was established in 1870 when the California and Oregon Railroad was constructed north from Marysville. On July 2, 1870 the railroad reached Chico another town in Butte County. The first post office was established in Gridley on September 22, 1870.
