Brief History of Hanford, CA
Hanford, California is the County seat of Kings County. It currently has a population of about 52,000.The Tachi Yokut Indians were the original inhabitants of the area and lived in Hanford for generations. Today, the area is a prime looking area for prehistoric relics. Hanford sits on California highway 198 between Lemoore and Hamblin. The weather tends to be hot in the Summer but cool in the winter, and the area sees a frequent occurrence of a dense fog called Tule fog. Many car accidents are caused by this fog. Hanford was founded when the Southern Pacific railroad went through the area, and in fact, the town is named for James Hanford, a railroad executive at the time.
