Brief History of Holtville, CA
Located off California highway 8, just east of El Centro is the smallish city of Holtville, California in Imperial County. This town of 6,000 people is approximately 10 miles north of the border between the United States and Mexico. The city was named for its founder named Holt and was originally called Holton, but was later named Holtville. It was founded in 1908, the same as El Centro and other nearby cities, and like them, celebrated its 100 anniversary this year. Various parts of Holtville have burned down over the years but the residents have continued to rebuild their beloved town.
