Brief History of Imperial Beach, CA
Imperial Beach , California is South of the city of San Diego and just North of the Border between the United States and Mexico, on the coast. There are about 30,000 people living here. It is, geographically, the most southwestern city in the United States. The "modern" history of Imperial Beach started about June 1887 when R. R. Morrison a real estate developer, filed a subdivision map with the San Diego County Clerk. Imperial Beach was always a subdivision town, basically a bedroom community to San Diego. In the 1970s the Hell’s Angels and other Biker Gangs took over the city, leading to one of its darker periods. Those days, thankfully, are gone. Nowdays, the city is most famous for its annual sand castle festival which brings hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area.
