Brief History of Irwindale, CA
Just off the 605 freeway and south of the 210 lies the little city of Irwindale. The city barely has 1,500 residents, but it is home to over 700 businesses. The city is primarily known for its rock quarries, which represent the big source of tax revenue for Irwindale. In fact, the city’s nickname is “garden of rocks” showing the importance of the quarries. The city, which is in Los Angeles County, is also known for the Irwindale Speedway, a dam ( Santa Fe) and a brewery (Miller).
Most of the housing in the city is located in the lower corner of the city, near Arrow Highway. Also, even though there are few residents, the strong business base in Irwindale provides the city with enough revenue to support all of the typical city services like police, fire, libraries and community buildings.
