Brief History of Jackson, CA
Jackson was founded during the Gold Rush. Col. Alden Jackson and his group set up camp in the center of Jackson in 1848. In August of 1862 a fire almost destroyed the entire downtown area of Jackson. Many of those buildings were reconstructed and still stand today. In 1943, due to WW II, the last mine closed in Jackson, located in Amador County.
