Brief History of Jamestown, CA
Although Jamestown, California has been a part of Tuolumne County for many years, it has not incorporated as a city. Jamestown was inhabited by peaceful groups of Native Americans. Jamestown witnessed dangerous floods during the winter of 1848. Pulmonary diseases and the lack of food caused the death and suffering of many miners. The community was relieved when a lawyer from San Francisco arrived in the area with a wagon full of food and supplies. The community of Jamestown was so impressed with Colonel George James that they immediately named the town in his honor.
