Brief History of Kensington, CA
The city of Kensington was an undeveloped grassy hillside which was covered with dairy farms and adjoining pasture land. During the early 1900’s Kensington consisted of primarily residential development. Kensington was named in 1911, after the birthplace of one of the original surveyors. Kensington boundaries were defined after the incorporation of El Cerrito in 1917.
