Brief History of Kerman, CA
Kerman is a community in Fresno County, along State Route 180. The Pacific Railroad Company constructed a new line between Fresno and Tracy in 1891. Kerman began after a watering tank and pump opened at the location. The first caretaker of the tank and pump quit after some months because he got too lonely and never saw anyone but the train crews who were always to busy to have a conversation. Two Los Angeles capitalists purchased the land from a rich Bank of California who had purchased large tracts of land in every county in California. William G. Kerckoff and Jacob Mansar combined the first three letters of their names and christened the land, Kerman.
