Brief History of King City, CA
Located in Monterey County, King City is north of San Luis Obispo between Soledad and Paseo Robles and has the nearby community of Greenfield to the northwest and San Lucas to the Southwest. Charles King is the original founder of King City. In 1884, Charles King received a Spanish land grant that included 13,000 acres of the San Lorenzo Rancho. He began to grow 6,000 acres of wheat. The Southern Pacific Railroad used King City as a train shop in 1886 to transport goods to San Francisco and Los Angeles. By 1911, King City became incorporated and has been providing its residents and visitors a full range of services.
