Brief History of Lake Arrowhead, CA
The unincorporated community of Lake Arrowhead is situated in San Bernardino County. A fur trader, Jedediah Smith, was the first white man to explore Lake Arrowhead and its surrounding area in 1826. Lake Arrowhead houses its very own man made reservoir, Lake Arrowhead, California with a surface area of about 780 acres. Lake Arrowhead is situated approximately 10 to 15 minutes north of the City of San Bernardino. The city’s name derives from the rock formation of an arrowhead on the San Bernardino Mountain, near Arrowhead Hot Springs. It was known as Little Bear Lake until 1920 when it was changed to Lake Arrowhead.
