Brief History of Lake Elsinore, CA
Lake Elsinore is a city in Riverside County that incorporated in 1888. The first inhabitants in Lake Elsinore were Native Americans. During the 18 th century the Spanish ranchers and American trappers used the lake as a natural spot to replenish their supplies. Lakes Elsinore was named after the Danish city in one of Shakespeare’s, “Hamlet.” The Lake Elsinore dried out during the 1930’s, but thirty years later it was refilled. During the early 1900’s, the residents from Los Angeles used Lake Elsinore as an escape from the urban Hollywood scene. Today, Lake Elsinore is among the top ten fastest growing cities in Riverside County.
