Brief History of Lakeport, CA
Lakeport dates back to the 1940’s. The city of lake port is Lake Counties oldest town and was incorporated in 1888. During the Gold Rush era of the 1940’s fields of Gold passed along from the Northern part of California. Because Lakeport has wonderful farmland, an excess amount of water supply and ideal climate, many pioneers wanted to settle in that area. The father of Lake port is said to be a man by the name of William Forbes. Mr. Forbes owned a blacksmith and wagon making shop along with a gentleman by the name of James Parish. As the first man to settle in Lakeport, Mr. Forbes was the first undertaker and served as the settlements postmaster.
