Brief History of Lakewood, CA
The city of Lakewood was incorporated in 1954. It originally had over 70,000 residents and was the largest town at that time. In 1894, local business men resided in the area that is now Lakewood. The intention to strike oil was suppressed when they accidentally found water. The business men later sold the water to cities along the area.
The city of Lakewood celebrated their 50 th anniversary recently and is headed in the right direction. The oldest building in the city of Lakewood is the Clubhouse located in the Lakewood Golf Course. In order to preserve the city and prevent some of the neighborhoods to be “rundown” the city of Lakewood offers many municipal services. The city of Lakewood has an active volunteer base that help the city thrive.
