Brief History of Lemoore, CA
Located on California highway 198 on the road to Visalia, California is the City of Lemoore. The city has about 25,000 people and is primarily an agricultural city. Before the turn of the century, Lemoore was trying to become the county seat of Kings County. However, when the Southern Pacific railroad chose Hanford to put its tracks through, Hanford was made county seat instead because it had two railroad tracks to Lemoore’s one. It is said that continuing that tradition of competition Lemoore residents have always taken a keen interest in local political activities. The city is named for the first notable homeowner in the immediate area, Doctor L. Lee Moore in the early 1870s.
