Brief History of Montclair, CA
Montclair is a city in San Bernardino County. The Serrano tribes of Native Americans were the earliest known inhabitants of the Montclair area. Montclair was originally founded as Township of Marquette in 1897. Three years later a 1,000 acre tract of land was surveyed and named Monte Vista. After experiencing growth in residential development, the community incorporated on April 25, 1956. On April 8, 1958, the name was changed to Montclair because the post office refused to open an office in the city due to name conflict with a community in Northern California.
