Brief History of Monterey, CA
The original inhabitants of the are that is now known as Monterey Park were the Gabrielino Indians. In 1771, there were more than 4,000 Gabrielino inhabitants of the area. Pedro Canbon and Father Angel Somero led the groups of soldiers in 1771.
Monterey Park was located in the area of the Mission San Gabriel de Archangel. The separation of Monterey Park took place in when Alessandro Repetto bought the area of 5,000 acres. Repetto built his home in that location.
