Brief History of Mount Shasta, CA
The City of Mount Shasta is located in Siskiyou County. The Okwanuchu tribe of Native Americans inhabited the Mount Shasta area at one point. Mount Shasta experienced an increase in tourism, lumbering, and population after the completion of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1887. The community went through several name changes like Strawberry Valley and Berryvale until 1924 when it was renamed, Mount Shasta, California.
