Brief History of Needles, CA
The City of Needles is located in San Bernardino County. Needles was founded as result of the construction of the railroad in 1883. Needles is one of the oldest living communities on the Colorado River. The name is derived from the sharp peaks at the south end of the valley. Needles, California put forward a proposal to exempt itself from San Bernardino County or to be annexed to the state of Nevada due to a conflict over funding a public hospital. The United States Congress, both states, and the populace of the town must approve the proposal. Needles is known for its extremely hot summers. The temperatures in Needles reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit during late July and early August.
