Newcastle, California is located along highway 80 between Loomis and Auburn California in Placer County. It is essentially an unincorporated town about 30 miles north of Sacramento. Newcastle was founded in the mid 1800s as a stop on the Transcontinental Railroad, and also as a town in the center of the California gold fields. However, Newcastle was never a big gold producer, and was actually better known for its orchards than for its gold production.
