Brief History of ONeals, CA
O’Neals is located in Madera County and was named after Charles O’Neal who came to California in 1857. Before purchasing the Gilmore-Mace Ranch, Charles managed the Santa Rita Ranch. He named the town O’Neals and developed a store and a hotel. The Bigelow Telephone Company was created and it serviced Bass Lake, North Fork, and Sugar Pine.
