Brief History of Oceanside, CA
Oceanside California is located between San Clemente and Carlsbad in San Diego County, on the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Oceanside was originally founded as a site for the “King of Missions”, the Mission San Luis Rey in 1798. In the late 1800s, Oceanside’s growth was propelled by the railroad, which ran from Los Angeles to San Diego. Oceanside is the third largest city in San Diego County with a population approaching 200,000. Oceanside is located on the south side of Camp Pendleton, which paved the way for the population to have a decidedly military flair. Rapid, almost explosive growth occurred in Oceanside in the WWII era, as manufacturing plants built to support the military sprang up everywhere. After WWII, U.S. highway 5 was built, and as major stop between Los Angeles and San Diego, California the growth continued.
