Brief History of Pacific Beach, CA
Pacific Beach is on the sand located between La Jolla and Mission Beach California. Pacific Beach is technically a neighborhood in San Diego, right next to Mission Bay. The city started in the late 1800s as a subdivision, basically lots on a big expanse of dirt. Then the San Diego College of Letters opened and people started recognizing Pacific Beach as a desirable location. Unfortunately the college didn’t last long and property sales in Pacific Beach came to a screeching halt. Soon thereafter, though, lemon trees were planted, and how they thrived! For a while, Pacific Beach was known as the Lemon Capital of the World. Lately, Pacific Beach is known for its vibrant nightlife. Nightclubs, coffee houses and dance halls dot the beach front, attracting party-goers from all over the country.
PB's boom was short-lived, however. The Depression of the 1890's saw the collapse of The San Diego College of Letters. Land sales quickly halted as people lost their properties and moved away.
