Brief History of Paramount -
Spanish settlers first explored Paramount in 1781. Paramount was organized under two famous old Spanish Ranchos. Rancho San Pedro was on the west and on the east was Rancho Los Nieto. These ranchos were granted by King Carlos III in 1784 under the Spanish Empire. Two smaller ranchos were later established, Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos, and both encompassed parts of Paramount. Paramount was made up of two small communities, called Hynes and Clearwater, before it was formally incorporated on January 30, 1957. The incorporation of Paramount was followed by the victorious “Save Paramount for Paramount” campaign to fight annexation by Long Beach, Bellflower, and South Gate.
