Brief History of Peidmont, CA

Luis Maria Peralta owned 14,430 acres of land on the east side of San Francisco Bay in 1820. Peralta’s rancho was so big that it included today’s cities of Piedmont, Berkeley, and Oakland. Like those of early California, holdings passed out of the hands of their original owners. A portion of Jose Domingo’s patrimony became the city of Berkeley, Vicente’s land became Oakland, while a portion of both tracts became the city of Piedmont. Incorporated in 1907, Piedmont is a charter city located in Alameda County, overlooking the San Francisco Bay. The city of Piedmont is located within a few minutes of Oakland, it has San Francisco on the west and Walnut Creek and Concord on the east.
