Playa del Rey is a beachside community within the city of Los Angeles. The friendly environment of Playa del Rey is always filled with people. Bikers, skaters, and joggers may have the best chance of traversing the sidewalks of the beaches north to Santa Monica. During the 1950’s Playa del Rey was known as a great Los Angeles area surfing spot, due to the rock jetties that were built to prevent beach erosion. By now the good surf is mostly gone. Most surfers now crowd the northern part of the beach in the city of Manhattan Beach.
