Brief History of Raymond, CA
Jesse Knight, a Utah Industrialist and humanitarian sent his two sons to investigate the land now known as Raymond, California. After purchasing 30,000 acres of land, Mr. Knight met up with his sons. Within days he knew exactly what he wanted to do. He built a sugar factory that employed settlers in the area. Mr. Knight signed a contract with the Canadian Northwest Irrigation Company and the Alberta Railway and Irrigation Company to purchase and additional 226,000 acres. The town site was located and named Raymond after Knight’s oldest son.
