Brief History of Redlands, CA
The City of Redlands was originally part of the territory of the Morongo and Aguas Calientes tribes. Redlands, California became part of the large Rancho San Bernardino after the arrival of Spanish settlers in the 1700’s. The Lugo family received a large grant in the area in 1842. In 1851, several hundred Mormon pioneers purchased the entire Rancho San Bernardino, founded nearby San Bernardino, and established a flourishing farming community. Redlands became a city in San Bernardino County in 1888.
