Brief History of Rio Dell, CA
Rio Dell is situated on the Eel River in northern Humboldt County, a few miles from the town of Scotia. During the 1870’s Lorenzo Painter settled in what is now known as Rio Dell. He established a farming community called, Eagle Prairie. Over the years two other separate community areas evolved and were named Wildwood and Belleview. In 1965 the three areas combined into a single city, Rio Dell.
