Brief History of Roseville, CA
Located on U.S. Highway 80, Northeast of Sacramento is the city of Roseville California. This city of 103,000 in Placer County is known for its employment in two fields: Technology and medical services. Hewlett Packard is a major employer in the area, as is Kaiser Permanente. Roseville’s history really started after the California Gold rush. When the lure of gold didn’t pan out for many, they turned instead to farming, and the rich soils and mild climate of Roseville seemed like the perfect place. Roseville remains today one of the fast growing cities in California, with people attracted to the lifestyle and the jobs. In fact, in 1997, half of the homes built in Placer County were built in Roseville to accommodate the influx of people. Retail shopping now plays an important part of Roseville’s economy. It is purported to have the ninth largest retail sales in California, aided by such places as the Westfield Galleria at Roseville. Roseville also boasts one of the largest auto malls in California, the Roseville Automall. In 1989 Roseville began preparing for the future with its ambitious redevelopment plan. The plan covers 1,600 acres and aims to revitalize downtown Roseville into a more modern city.
