Brief History of San Joaquin County, CA
San Joaquin County was created in 1850 as one of the original counties. The first permanent residence was in the San Joaquin Valley. The naming of the county comes from the San Joaquin River meaning (Joachim). While in an expedition in the late 1800’s in the lower great California Central Valley, Lieutenant Gabriel Moraga gave that name to a rivulet.
