San Ysidro is a town on the Mexican border at the end of the 805 and 5 freeways. It is technically a community that is a part of San Diego, after being annexed in 1957. San Ysidro is purported to be the busiest land border crossing, with thousands and thousands of people crossing back and forth into Tijuana. The future of San Ysidro lies in the port. A major port expansion project has just begun with will restore some of the prominence to San Ysidro. San Ysidro is known as the gateway to the Americas because of the 100,000 plus people that cross the border each day.
